Clinical Interests
Lenise Cummings-Vaughn, MD, CMD provides care for older adults in the outpatient, inpatient and long-term care settings. She is the Medical Director of the Stay Healthy Clinic, a clinic created by a Barnes Jewish initiative to decrease re-hospitalization in those older adults at greatest risk. In addition, she sees patients in the Older Adult Assessment Clinic located in the Center for Advanced Medicine on the Washington University Center Campus. The clinic focuses on assessment of older adults with health issues such as memory loss, confusion, immobility, incontinence, falls, medication, nutrition and depression. She is also an attending on the inpatient geriatric consult service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Cummings-Vaughn is also the attending and Associate Medical Director at Parc Provence, a state-of-the-art long-term care facility for Alzheimer’s patient in West County. Dr. Cummings-Vaughn has a great passion for evidence based medicine and geriatric education and provides instruction to medical students, residents and fellows. She devotes significant time to developing and providing medical and interdisciplinary education with support from a Geriatric Academic Career Award from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Research Interests
Dr. Cummings-Vaughn is primarily interested in factors affecting disability and morbidity in vulnerable older adult populations. She has evaluated epidemiological studies for the effect of testosterone and vitamin D on mortality in older African-Americans. She is also interested in translational research examining factors affecting re-hospitalizations in older adults.
