Professor of Medicine

Additional Titles

  • Associate Director, Clinical Research Science Core Laboratory for the Nutrition Obesity Research Center

Research Interests

Dr. Patterson specializes in the application of stable isotope tracer methodology to the study of protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism in human subjects, and the application of mathematical modeling, particularly compartmental modeling, to studies of tracer and non-tracer metabolic kinetics. Specific research interests include lipoprotein metabolism in obesity and the metabolic syndrome, and analysis of intravenous and oral glucose tolerance tests to determine insulin secretion rates and insulin sensitivity of glucose uptake and the turnover kinetics of amyloid beta peptides associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.
