Annie C. Harmon, PhD

Assistant Professor of Medicine

Research Interests

Dr. Harmon’s research focus explores driving assessment and rehabilitation through use of driving simulation along with driving reduction and cessation in medically impaired adults. Her current work studying decisions about returning to driving after a stroke and driving in later life provides unique insights beyond traditional risk assessment with an emphasis on salient social roles and identities tied to operating a motor vehicle in the United States. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods, Dr. Harmon studies on the driving experience and destinations of drivers and their family that balance personal independence with on-road safety. She works to increase understanding of how and when people make decisions about their driving status, as well as expectations for their future transportation needs, with the ultimate goal of maximizing safe mobility throughout the lifespan.
