Dr. Brookheart’s work focuses on understanding how metabolic disorders influence women’s health. Using both basic science and translational approaches, current research projects include investigating the role of cellular stress in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and obesity and examining how metabolic disorders alter the human microbiome to disrupt fertility and offspring health.  The long-term goal of these studies is to develop new therapeutic targets for the treatment of PCOS- and obesity-associated metabolic disturbances.
