The Division of Nutritional Science & Obesity Medicine offers opportunities for professionals to study and practice state-of-the-art health care and research. Educational opportunities include fellowships, residencies, student rotations and internships featuring clinical care, education and research methods.

The division’s programs for post-doctoral fellows are accredited by ACGME. One- to three-year fellowship positions are available, with research and clinical experiences offered.

Nutritional science fellowships

The Center for Human Nutrition provides a rich training environment for young investigators, as well as established investigators who are expanding into new areas related to nutrition and obesity. These training opportunities include diverse aspects of basic, clinical and community research. Personnel from the Center’s core research laboratories, supported by our NIH Nutrition and Obesity Research Center grant, provide expertise and hands-on guidance in the services offered by each core. Junior investigators can also take advantage of other training opportunities at Washington University School of Medicine.

In particular, the Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) provides a cohesive and supportive infrastructure to foster clinical research training and career development for predoctoral students, house-staff, postdoctoral fellows and faculty. Active mentoring, hands on research experiences and formal didactic programs in clinical research methods leading to a certificate or Master’s Degree in Clinical Investigation are core components of the CRTC program.

Traineeships in nutrition and obesity related projects are available through a large number of NIH-funded training grants in

  • Cardiology
  • Cell biology
  • Diabetes
  • Epidemiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Gerontology

In addition, mentored research fellowships are available through conventional investigator-initiated grant sources.
