Vincenza Cifarelli, PhD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Cifarelli’s research focuses on understanding inflammation and immune cells activation during nutrient fluctuations as well as during metabolic disorders (i.e. obesity). Specifically, she is studying the impact of receptor CD36, a facilitator of cellular fatty acid uptake, in modulating inflammation in mice models of tissue-specific CD36 knockout as well as in humans that carry polymorphisms in the CD36 gene that cause loss of the protein.
Dr. Cifarelli is also interested in understanding the metabolic importance of lymphatic transport of fat from the small intestine with respect to food-generated inflammation and metabolic disease.
