Bettina Mittendorfer, PhD
Professor of Medicine
- Associate Director, Center for Applied Research Sciences
- Director, Clinical Science Research Core of the Nutrition and Obesity Research Center (NORC)
Dr. Mittendorfer uses stable isotope labeled tracer methods for the investigation of metabolism in vivo (e.g., to evaluate whole-body and regional lipid, carbohydrate and protein metabolism such as hepatic glucose and triglyceride production, muscle protein synthesis rate, etc.). Her recent research has focused on the investigation of (i) fatty acid and lipoprotein metabolism leading to the discovery of significant sexual dimorphism in the regulation of lipid metabolism and (ii) muscle protein metabolism with the goal to elucidate the influences of sex hormones, male/female genotype and fibre composition on the muscle anabolic response to feeding and exercise.
